TRANSITIONAL CRIME
A Multi-Regional Project

The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:

  • Examine the structure of the U.S. criminal justice system, and how its principles are applied to the prosecution of transnational crime.
  • Foster global cooperation against terrorism and other international criminal activities.
  • Assess the impact of transnational crime and criminal financing on U.S. foreign policy priorities.
  • Address issues of balancing law enforcement and security with civil liberties in a democratic society.

STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS
A Project for Iraq

The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:

  • Examine the decentralized and self-regulating nature of U.S. federalism and how it promotes transparency in government.
  • Enhance insight into best practices and approaches to responsible and efficient management of public funds and budgets at the municipal level.
  • Analyze public sector efforts to encourage ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability.
  • Explore the role of civil society in fostering good governance and accountability in government.
  • Examine the benefits of decentralized planning and management of budgets and expenditures.

GLOBAL AND REGIONAL RESPONSES TO REFUGEE AND MIGRATION ISSUES
A Multi-Regional Project

The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:

  • Examine international cooperation on refugee issues.
  • Explore the role of governments in maintaining secure and orderly borders.
  • Examine interagency efforts and standards for reviewing, processing, and resettling refugees in the United States.
  • Explore government and private sector efforts to combat discrimination and integrate immigrant and minority communities.
  • Observe training programs for law enforcement, multicultural teaching environments, and other programs that demonstrate explore techniques for engaging with a diverse population.
  • Study initiatives that broaden immigrants’ and minorities’ employment opportunities and civic participation.
  • Examine federal, state, local, and community outreach to youth from immigrant and minority communities.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
A Multi-Regional Project

The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:

  • Examine U.S. local, state, and federal approaches to disaster management, emergency preparedness, and emergency response.
  • Examine how government, NGOs, community organizers, first responders, and media align to advance their emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Explore the importance of community‑based partnerships and strategies for developing emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Demonstrate the variety of emergency preparedness and response structures at federal, state, and local levels, highlighting current training practices and featuring the constructive impact of community input.
