THE INTERNATIONAL VISITOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (IVLP)

Global Ties Idaho is a local affiliate of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Since 1940, IVLP has served as a professional exchange program, bringing thousands of international leaders to the U.S. annually.

Our program cooperates on a national level to provide visitors with unique and impactful experiences to provide rich and educational visits. Visitors enjoy professional introductions, local experiences, and accessibility to world-class outdoor recreation.

The International Visitor Leadership Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by members of Global Ties U.S.

Professional development exchange programs create opportunities for business, nonprofit, government, and academic leaders from around the world to share ideas, learn from each other, and build trust. Investing in professional development exchange programs like the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is one of the most powerful ways we can advance U.S. foreign policy priorities, address shared global challenges, and help participants build strong lasting relationships. IVLP alumni include 500+ current or former chiefs of state or heads of government, 10 Nobel Laureates, and thousands of private and nonprofit sector leaders. The IVLP supports the Global Ties Network: 80+ American community-based nonprofits comprising 40,000+ partners and volunteers across the U.S. who host exchange participants and share the American experience by bringing them into their schools, communities, and homes. In FY 2018, the Global Ties Network implemented 601 IVLP projects, which brought 5,305 international visitors to communities across the U.S. Funding for the IVLP covers transportation costs, staff time, and program expenses such as meals and lodging.

The IVLP is the backbone of the Global Ties Network. Timely disbursement of funding is essential for 80+ American nonprofits to make programs function. This includes their ability to pay staff salaries, make rent, pay for local services including transportation, lodging, and meals, and continue to support their local economy through exchange programs.

Professional development exchange programs connect Americans with their international counterparts, resulting in strong relationships and networks that advance U.S. security, prosperity, and global leadership. American businesses learn how better to compete in a global marketplace. U.S. citizens are better prepared to succeed in an increasingly global workplace. Local governments learn and share lessons with their overseas counterparts to address local challenges. The U.S gains allies in leadership positions all over the world.

Global Ties U.S. is a nonprofit partner of the U.S. Department of State. We support a community-based network of nonprofits that implement exchange programs, primarily the IVLP.
